and all the trimmings...

We get married in September and then wouldn't you know, we host The Hepburn Thanksgiving at our house. Dad said we were officially the first "kids" to host one of the big holidays. I have to say, it was fabulous. Fortunatly for me, it was a smaller crowd of 9 (wonderful guests) and my Mom and Sister and fantastic cooks. We all divided the menu and put personal touches on each part. Mark even made the pumpkin pie. We were also delighted to share the day with Lisanne, our dear friend that is getting ready to move to Australia in February. It was a pretty sweet time of sharing with her too - AND she brought rather tasty appetizers. I was so sad to eat the last candied pecan last night!

Our meal was a 15 lb. organic and free range turkey, gruyere and garlic smashed red skinned potatoes, roasted fennel, brussel sprouts, carrots and cabbage, sauted rainbow swiss chard with golden rasins and sunflower seeds, Ina Garten's amazing sauage and herb stuffing, sauerkraut and homemade cranberries to top it off. Of course we had homemade rustic pumpkin and lattice apple pie to finish. What a meal it was!! Tasty and went down well.

The whole day I just felt thankful and grateful for all that is in my life. I went to bed with not only a full belly but a very full heart too!

Fall Day At The Farm

There is nothing like biting into a crisp apple or homemade apple or pumpkin pie! Each year we go to Larriland Farm in Woodbine, MD to pick our own apples, broccoli, beets, pumpkins and munch on fresh hot apple fritters. They are quite the treat! This year we went with our friends, Lisanne, Liz and Ryan. We weren't actually able to pick the apples off of a tree, but did go home with bags of apples from a large bin. A bit disapointing, but still fresh apples and we were in a great setting. Other produce we took home was TONS of broccoli, beets, swiss chard, pumpkins and butternut squash. It was the perfect way to spend a sunny and crisp fall afternoon.

Introductions

For our wedding website, Shane and I took time to write a little introduction of ourselves but we introduced each other. I loved this too much to not post. ENJOY!

About Ashley,
From an early age Ashley Hepburn was unique.  Yes, she has several sisters and a brother that have similar features but Ashley is unique!  I’m told that as a small girl she actually thought she was Jessica Rabbit…  She has a creative mind and a strong determination to accomplish whatever she sets out to do.   She believes in people’s potential and encourages them on to be a better self.
She helps me in so many ways because she rarely forgets a time or date or comment or name. She is always thinking two steps ahead and encourages me to do the same.  She loves to give gifts and often buys them months in advance.  Ashley is constantly on the lookout for great adventure ideas, new recipes to try, and fun or unusual gifts to give.
Ashley is a wonderful cook and loves trying exciting new recipes - often with foods I’ve never heard of before.  She’s a fitness and outdoor enthusiast, a serious triathlete and an all-around good sports(wo)man.  I remember training with her last Fall.  It was our last weekend before the Nations competition and we planned a practice swim in the river near her house.  However, when we got ready to jump-in we saw that the river was filled with Jelly fish!  She hated the idea of diving into a pool of Jelly fish but hated more the idea of backing down - so, we swam!
Ashley was born and raised in Severna Park, Maryland, went to the College of Charleston to study art and made many strong connections there. She has deep loyal friends in many sectors of the globe that each hold a special connection and endearment toward her.  For those that know her, she is magnetic and radiant with a smile and excitement that lights up the room.  She’s kind to everyone and says “hello” to people on the streets (even as she speed-walks past)!
Some of Ashley’s future goals are to eat authentic pit-smoked beef and to re-visit Nebraska when she can participate in one of our  “Branding Parties”!!

Love you Ash,
Shaner

This is from me about Shane:

Shane. Shaner. Busch.
Ahh... the many nicknames Shane has received from me over the past year and several months. It's hard to sum up Shane in a few words, but what comes to my mind first is compassionate, hard working, driven, confident, wise and patient.
Shane has a unique and extensive history. Shane grew up in North Platte, Nebraska, went off to college, entered into the Marines, went back to school, worked in DC, went back to the Colorado School of Mines for his masters and has lived in or traveled to many many places both in the US and abroad. Fortunately, in June of 2009 he got a job offer as an Energy Consultant that moved him to Annapolis, Maryland. YAY!  Daily I get to unfold more and more stories from his past, his travels and the life experiences that have brought him to this point and have shaped him into the man he is today.
What strikes me about Shane is his ability to listen and really care. All that know me, know that I can talk and pretty much hold a conversation with anyone and about anything. When Shane and I are together, he really listens to me and I'll never forget when we were coming home from a road trip and all of a sudden I was dry mouthed and exhausted. I looked over at Shane and realized I had talked nearly the entire ride home. Rather than being irritated Shane looked at me and with the best possible tone said, "oh, I love hearing you talk. I feel like I am built to listen to you!"
Shane is up for anything and pretty much anytime of the day. His calm demeanor will make you think he has all the time in the workd for you. He is such a people person, comfortable and easy to be around..and has a real gift of relating to people. His heart is so good intentioned and it just pours out from in him in the way he lives his life, treats and cares for me, and others that come in contact with him. I've learned a lot just by watching and being around Shane.
As outdoor guru Shane keeps fit by road biking, mountain biking, hiking, camping, running, walking, swimming, pilates, yoga (yes, he will go with me!) and pretty much any other outdoor sport.
Just one of Shane's future goals is to learn how to play the guitar and take singing lessons so he can serenade his future wife ;)
I love you Busch!
Ash

Hi and welcome to my life

It's October 31st, 2011 and I am 27 years old, live in Downtown Annapolis, work in Communications and Training for Dynasplint Systems, Inc and was recently married to Shane, God's gift to me for the rest of my life! I would say my life is pretty amazing and abundant with joy, fellowship, friends, adventure, family and love. Since I moved to Annapolis in 2009, I've had a whirlwind of events that have led me to where I am now.

So, I am using this blog to share the memorable (and some of the maybe not so memorable) happenings of my life from here on out.

I feel like I should start with how I met my man, Shane Ferrell, since he will be part of many posts. It was a crisp Fall night in October 2010 and a few friends were getting together to share a meal and discuss some of the details of a new church plant that we were all part of in Annapolis. I was running late (no surprise then, but getting better at this) and I walked in the door with a large pot of chili in hand to be greeted my all of my dear friends and someone new - Shane. I quickly seemed to get paired off with Shane and got to talk to him for a bit while dinner was getting prepared. I was intriqued. Within a few minutes I could tell he was kind and intentional. We all shared a great meal and Shane and I remained in contact (as friends) over the next several months. Getting to know him was really different than any other guy I'd known or met - he captured my attention and feelings in a way that even I didn't understand or known how to process. We started hanging out more the following summer and by September we were officially dating - it was amazing. I didn't know how good life could be when I was able to share it with someone that brought out the best of me and whatever we were doing. Shane is different than me in many ways and kept me learning and on my toes. On March 31st 2011 we were engaged in Boulder, CO and on September 17th 2011, we were married!!
It's been 6 weeks and daily life gets more interesting and meaningful getting to share it with Shane.
